8. Baptism
• Use eSword to search for the word ‘baptize’, using KJV+ as your Bible version.

• Look at the meaning of the word ‘baptize’ by hovering your mouse over the Strong’s number next to it. What does this tell you about baptism?
• Now try searching instead for the word ‘baptized’. Some of the passages found can help us understand how people were baptized in the time of Jesus, e.g. Matthew 3:16 and John 3:23. Why was a lot of water needed?
• Romans chapter 6 is devoted to a discussion about baptism. It’s worth spending the time to read this chapter but note particularly verses 3 & 4.
• In what way can baptism be like a burial?
• How does this associate the believer with Jesus, as described in this chapter?
You might be surprised at what the Bible says about baptism, and at what the act of baptism is. We hope that this may prompt some questions in your mind and you will want to look into it further by reading and studying the Bible for yourself.
